Roots and Wings has received a number of acknowledgments of success:
  • In 1998, the two Senior Class teachers, Gina McMurchy-Barber and Kristin Cassie, made a memorable trip to Ottawa, as two of the 12 Canadian finalists for the Governor-General’s Award for Excellence in Teaching Canadian History. Gina was again nominated in 2001 and Kristin in 2002.
  • Roots and Wings appeared as a model for education at Summit 2001 in Vancouver in 2001.
  • Founder and Principal, Kristin Cassie, was nominated for the YWCA’s Women of Distinction Award in 2001 and again in 2007.
